LaRose Colquitt
58:04
Is making logos a topic in programs like Graphic Design and Illustration?
Jomelle Narra Montillo
58:44
For graphic design, yes afaik
Hector Verdugo
59:37
@LaRose- Yes. Creating logos is a part of this major and much more.
Nikki Kipple
01:00:15
@kylie It depends on where you get the font! There are open source fonts that you can you however you want. There are other fonts you have to pay for. It’s sort of a case by case basis, but generally no, you wouldn’t need to pay extra.
Holli Scheel
01:00:24
Yeah and the L and A overlap of the second to last font looked super good

THANK YOU!!
Jomelle Narra Montillo

Yes, cupcakes and puppies <3
Nikki Kipple
01:01:18
@Amari I would start by using fonts that come installed on your computer. There are other open source font websites where you can download fonts such as Google Fonts.

Holli Scheel
01:06:00
Something I was wondering, since we're using the Adobe fonts, but editing them, would we still be legally allowed to sell logos made of the font?

@Nikki Thank you!
Nikki Kipple
01:10:58
@Oscar, I can’t really speak to comic book illustrations. I imagine most artists use Photoshop for that type of work but probably design at a high dpi.
Oscar Orencio Hofmann
01:11:48
could you please say that again real quick how to transform to vector and where is that pathfinder tool?

You don’t need to follow along, but are definitely welcome to!
Hector Verdugo
01:13:54
@Jomelle- No you do not. You can if you want to. It's not a requirement at all.

I love the pen tool
Nikki Kipple
01:16:55
What’s great is that the pen tool exists in pretty much every Adobe program, so once you know how to use it and can utilize it in other programs like InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects etc.

Oscar Orencio Hofmann
01:18:36
how do you create that color palette?
Rosy Spencer
01:18:53
Great advice
Nikki Kipple
01:19:12
She created that color palette by grabbing colors from her mood board. Using the color picker she’s using now.
Karla Rossette Taveras
01:19:14
how do you create that color palette?
Haixin Guo
01:19:16
You should try going on color.adobe.com

Three scoops looks better

01:19:25
It's a really easy way to create palettes
Rosy Spencer

Oscar Orencio Hofmann
01:19:44
thanks @Haixin !
Jomelle Narra Montillo
01:20:02
You can always save your color palette in illustrator
Chia Yi Chen
01:20:10
you can try an Instagram account called colors.cafe
Chia Yi Chen
01:20:31
a lot of cool color palette inspiration!
Chia Yi Chen
01:21:05
sorry the account name is colours.cafe
Oscar Orencio Hofmann
01:21:42
thank you @Chia Yi
Nikki Kipple
01:21:49
Adobe Color is a great resource and is a part of Adobe Creative Cloud. You can search color palette, create your own and add them to your library that you can then open in Adobe software.
Tiffany Enos
01:21:53
Thank you for sharing this account info! I love color palettes
Maria Figuere
01:23:42
What’s the difference between offset path and just editing stroke?
Amari Rogers
01:23:50
could you re explain how you just did that again? like with the lines on the inside of the font? just really fast!
Chia Yi Hsu
01:24:15
I have the same questions as Maria
LaRose Colquitt
01:24:19
Stroke is more on the outside
Bryan To
01:25:04
path = shape
Kathleen
01:25:09

Haixin Guo
01:28:12
What's the difference between offsetting the path and aligning the stroke to outside?
Bryan To
01:28:15
the link didn't work for me either
Oscar Orencio Hofmann
01:28:41
Wow! now I can see how cool that offset path effect makes it look cool
Nikki Kipple
01:29:22
@Chia, we don’t have any workshops like that planned, but we do a lot of that in our WNM classes :)
Maria Figuere
01:29:54
Ok so she is using offset path because it is a shape, right?
Kathleen
01:29:57
@Bryan, I made note for you to get it tomorrow. :)
LaRose Colquitt
01:30:20
The logo is looking good, I like the path and colors
Amari Rogers
01:30:30
^
Nikki Kipple
01:34:00
@Maria, offset path is an easy way to add extra pixels to the outer edge of the design. It’s similar to adding a stroke (outer edge) but it keeps it as a solid shape.
kylie danskin
01:34:01
What does “expand appearance” do?
Caleb Countryman
01:34:14
the ice-cream balls should drop from utop onto the cone in the animation with a plop sound

kylie danskin
01:39:38
I’d LOVE a recording of this!!!
Andrea Pimentel
01:39:44
I see an earlier question asking what “expand appearance” does. great question! It just makes everything into a plain vector shape, instead of a vector shape + an effect that can still be edited. so in this case it was just adding the offset path officially to the shape. it will be important in aftereffects since it won’t understand how to deal with the offset path.
LaRose Colquitt
01:39:56
Thank you Andrea, That was fun and helpful
kylie danskin
01:40:13
Thank you Andrea!

Whoa!
Oscar Orencio Hofmann
02:00:36
what does rasterize does?
Diana Lee
02:01:31
I think turns it into pixels for the screen instead of vector
Andrea Pimentel
02:01:44
rasterize means it treats it more like a pixel image, like a photograph file
Vinny
02:01:55
It looks good.
LaRose Colquitt
02:02:25
It looks really cool
Holli Scheel
02:02:28

Danielli Villaroman
02:04:10
what file type will the animated logo be exported as?
kylie danskin
02:04:27
I was wondering the same thing!
Jomelle Narra Montillo
02:04:52
CAn we see the graph without the ease?
Andrea Pimentel
02:05:56
aftereffects can export a lot of different file types. can be a video file if it was being used in a commercial, or a gif for use on the web, for example
Oscar Orencio Hofmann
02:05:58
maybe the pink icecream scoop to bounce in top?

02:17:24
I have imported .Ai files to after and even with the "sun" icon active, they don't look sharp? do you think the size of the illustration matters? I was given small illustrations to use, and in order to get sharper-ish borders, I had to re-scale them.
Danielli Villaroman
02:17:54
thank you! this revived my passion for creatives
Nikki Kipple
02:18:21
@Omar, the size shouldn’t matter as long as it’s a vector.
Jomelle Narra Montillo
02:18:40
DOes the preview resolution matter?
Oscar Orencio Hofmann
02:20:36
I have a last question regarding the class, how do you import or open the Ai file into Ae?

02:21:09
@Saihej- Email me. I will try to connect you to an advisor: hverdugo@academyart.edu
Oscar Orencio Hofmann
02:21:23

I second the request for info on Young & Hungry.

Yes, you would need to export it as a gif. Unfortunately that’s not the easiest thing to do. There are AE plugins that can help, otherwise you need to bring it into Photoshop to export as a GIF. Highly suggest Googling :)
